NORTHERN SEA ROUTE
The event dedicated to the Northern Sea Route and organized by the state corporation Rosatom was attended by the leaders of Rosatom, representatives of ministries, authorities, the Arctic regions of the Russian Federation, Russian and foreign business, scientific organizations and the expert community.
The Arctic Day participants discussed the most important issues of the NSR development, such as year-round navigation, the creation of an international container line, the development of international transit, infrastructure development of projects in the Arctic and ensuring the safety of navigation and environmental safety of the NSR. We would like to remind you that Russia is the chairman of the Arctic Council for the next two years and new opportunities appear for international joint projects and the transformation of the NSR into an international logistics corridor. The head of Rosatom, Aleksey Likhachev, noted that “we want to involve representatives of all countries that are interested in this event. We have no economic or political restrictions. " During the Arctic Day, six agreements important for the development of the Arctic were signed, including an agreement between Rosatom and the port operator DP World.
In his greeting to the participants of the Arctic Day, Vladimir Putin stressed that "only together we will turn the Arctic region into a space of peace, cooperation and mutual trust."
Since 2018, Rosatom has been the unified infrastructure regulator of the Northern Sea Route. Vyacheslav Ruksha, Deputy Director General of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom, a long-time partner of the NSR Association, Director of the NSR Directorate, reminded the audience of the main milestones in its development. He is sure that the NSR will become a new "silk road" for the development of not only the Russian, but also the world economy.
ROSATOM has become the unified infrastructure operator of the NSR in accordance with the NSR infrastructure development plan until 2035. This plan for the development of the Northern Sea Route, approved by the Government of the Russian Federation, provides for three stages. At the end of the third, by 2035, it is expected that cargo traffic will increase to 160 million tons, and the NSR will become a competitive international and national transport corridor. Over the past five years, the volume of traffic along the Northern Sea Route has increased 5.5 times.
The Northern Sea Route (NSR) is the shortest sea route between the European part of Russia and the Far East, the shipping capabilities of which are dramatically increasing due to global warming.
