NORTHERN SEA ROUTE
On February 16, 2022, a regular meeting was held on the development of the demographic situation in the Arctic and the Far East. According to the participants of the working group, the demographic situation should become a priority for Russia in the 21st century.
Representatives of the Sakhalin Region, the Zabaikalskiy region, Republic of Sakha-Yakutia, Chukotka, the Magadan Region, Buryatia expressed their recommendations on the difficult demography that has developed in the Russian Federation. Arctic and Far East Federal ministry was recommended to pay special attention to the further improvement of wages, housing construction, infrastructure development, and road construction. Construction in the Arctic remains very costly. The self -cost per square meter of housing in Sakha-Yakutia Republic amounted to 7.5 thousand rubles per square meter. The working group recommended that funding for regional roads must be increased from 9.5 billion rubles to 20 billion rubles. Only in this case can we expect modern logistics solutions and ensure reliable interregional economic ties. Particular attention was paid to the youth policy and the allocation of a hectare of land with infrastructure for families with three or more kids . The issue of the development of education and health care is still acute. “Only in the case of a differentiated approach to financing due to climate, living conditions, it is possible to achieve successful development of socio-economic development and demography of the Russian Arctic and the Far East,” summed up the two-hour meeting, the head of the working group under the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Senator from the Republic of Sakha-Yakutia Alexander Akimov.
