Cargo transportation along the Northern Sea Route increased by 2.59% compared to July 2020
As of July 22, 2021, cargo transportation along the Northern Sea Route this year increased by 2.59%, and the intensity of shipping - by 25.73% compared to the same period in 2020.
According to the information of Administration of the Northern Sea Route the cargo flow in the ports of the NSR with year-round navigation reached 17 million 047 thousand 282 tons (in 2020 - 16 million 606 thousand 916 tons). The transit amounted to 37 thousand 125 tons. In 2020, due to the Covid -19 restrictions in the world trade, the transit of goods along the NSR was not carried out on this date).
The intensity of navigation on the routes of the Northern Sea Route has grown even more significantly, by 25.73%. Thus, the NSR Administration has already issued permits for navigation along the Northern Sea Route to 640 vessels (in 2020 - 509), including 87 vessels under a foreign flag (in 2020 - 77). Northern sea route association (NSRA) is looking forward to further successful cruise voyages of the French company PONANT. The partner of the NSRA made its first successful cruise voyage from Pevek port in Chukotka region to Kamchatka region in September 2020, despite the pandemic time.
After a relative decline caused by the same transport and economic consequences of the pandemic time, NOVATEK company export of LNG and gas condensate began to grow from the largest export NSR terminal Sabetta. As of the indicated date, it amounted to 11 million 364 thousand tons, which is approximately 2.15% more than a year ago - 11 million 121 thousand tons.
According to the available information, one-year solid ice now covers less than 40% of the NSR water area, the main massive first-year ice remains in the northeastern part of the Kara Sea, in the center of the East Siberian Sea and in the area of Wrangel Island. At Cape Zhelaniya, in the Vilkitsky Strait and on the approaches to it, there is an iceberg threat exists.
Icebreaker support along the NSR was carried out by the nuclear-powered icebreakers «Taimyr» and «Yamal» which belong to Rosatomflot company -the NSRA partner . Icebreaking support in the port of Sabetta was carried out by the «Tor» icebreaker (FSUE Rosmorport).
